Mr. Stahly Report
- Marching season: This was a successful year, the band staff are proud of students and parental support. This Friday there is a home game (district playoff's) and we need everyone there. If we win this Friday we might go to Gardner/Edgerton. The SHS play is also at this time. If anyone has a conflict for next Friday just email Mr. Stahly so he can plan, if not enough kids there they will not perform.
- Neewollah, thanks to everyone for the water and support. The uniforms were hot - make sure there is water prior to performing. Some Buhler parents were upset because the band marched through where Buhler kids were sitting (on the track/line of marching). Please let Mr. Stahly know if there are any concerns with other bands instead of contacting the other bands yourself (no one here did that, he is just thanking us for being supportive of the SHS band).
- New York - 11/11/10 is the goal for next year. This is a televised event/parade (Veteran's Day parade). Will have to audition. Would be 5-day thing, 8th–13th. Students would miss 4 days of school (3 nights) 4 buses. The boosters help fund raise for the buses, but the costs are also shared. Also a possibility for a musical, sightseeing. Goal now is $900 per student. This is very likely an overestimation. As far as parents go - Mr. Stahly stressed that this is a trip for the students, and wants to reassure parents the kids will be constantly supervised. He will check if the company planning this can get a rate for the parents.
- Fundraising: Because of #3, Mr. Stahly would like to do another fundraiser - spirit cups. Pack of 4 for $12. Students get $4 of it. All major league sports/colleges. Potential Christmas presents! Will pay up front so each student will have a cup to showcase for $1. Only can do by Christmas if we turn in forms by Thanksgiving. Payment is up front, not after the sale. The students should be getting the information next week.
- Accounts posted - this includes the cookie dough. If you aren't at the meeting and want to know your student's balance please email Ms. Seago (eseago@usd345.com). Notes were sent home with students for students that need to add money to their accounts.
- Mr. Stahly's dad is hospitalized and he wanted to thank us for our continued support and prayers. He will be having triple bypass heart surgery on Monday.
Old/New Business
- Trivia Night - Forms are available now on the website - we need teams to get registered. The committee for this will be meeting right after this meeting. Nancy Ruoff is needing someone to head up the concessions. Please let Nancy Ruoff know if you are able to help out in any way, still in need of some volunteers. Also some door prizes are needed if you have anything to donate.
- BBQ/Auction - first weekend of February (Saturday, Feb. 6th 2010). Marci Lindsay chairing - not here tonight.
- Value Cards - Still have some to sell. Let Kevin know if you need some to sell. We received 800 cards and have only sold about 250.
- Band Website - Pictures from Neewollah on website. General discussion about purchasing the pictures online. Dewayne is trying to set something up. If anyone has pictures prior to homecoming let Lori Williams know - her father is creating a DVD.
OLD BUSINESS
- Still have about 300 ice cream cups left over from the Fall Concert. Located in the school freezer. Would like to donate to fine arts boosters to sell in their concessions. (The Fine Arts boosters just purchased a tympany holder for the drumline ($1,600). Motion made and seconded to donate left over ice cream to fine arts boosters. Motion passed.
- Thank you to volunteers for all the work this marching season!
- Grant money - Debbie and Lynne will be working on this.
NEW BUSINESS
- Fundraisers - could now do Just Nuts if we want, could look into continuing on with the cups, possibly pizza places might have something...would someone like to look into something like this? TA is looking into a concessions at the expo center, he will be contacting Twila Broadbent. General discussion. Even a community garage sale in the spring was mentioned.
- What about this years' 8th graders - they did the cookie dough - will need to be included in some of this...will follow up with Mr. Stahly to see what he has planned for this.
- Request for water prior to performance at Neewollah. For next year we need to make sure there is water before and after the performance. Also ideas for Neewollah lunch discussed - brought up for next year talking with Mr. Stahly about a big tailgate with parents for the band. Had 18–20 cars following the buses to Independence.
- Auction - start looking for clearance items to donate for baskets.
Motion made to adjourn, seconded and approved. Adjourned at 8:15 pm.
The next Band Booster meeting will be on December 3rd, 7:00 pm.
